David is the Chief People Officer and a co-founder of Flipp, a leading mobile consumer marketplace that is reinventing the weekly shopping experience. David is the CTO and a co-founder of Flipp, a leading mobile consumer marketplace that is reinventing the weekly shopping experience. In his role as CTO, David has spent the last 10 years building the Flipp platform that enables some of the largest retailers in the world, including Walmart, Macy’s, Dollar General, and Lowe’s to transform print circulars into a digital, personalized experience. David oversees the Engineering team at Flipp who is building the flyer of the future. The engineers at Flipp love solving hard problems, and push the boundaries of everything they do. Their innovative work is used by the biggest retailers in the world, and their ideas make it into the hands of millions of shoppers everydaywho save hundreds of dollars every month using the Flipp app.
With a focus on automation, scaling and resiliency, David has grown his team to include more than 100 engineers since the company launched in 2007. David’s team handles thousands of flyer requests per second on the busiest shopping days and creates the tools to process data so that Flipp can deliver unique insights to retailer partners to better connect with their customers and drive sales. He also provides guidance on architecture, design and technology choices to the broader Flipp team. David is a graduate of the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering. David has a passion for all things computing and is known for sharing his experience, insights and expertise with the development community. He regularly speaks at industry events including DevTO and Tech Toronto.
